Site prep isn’t just the first step — it’s the foundation for everything that follows. At BANR, we’ve seen what happens when this stage is rushed or skipped. Rotten organic material left in the soil can turn into a spongey mess that no structure wants to sit on. Wood debris might as well be a ticking time bomb — it breaks down, the ground shifts, and before long, you’ve got foundation cracks.
We clear it all. Roots, brush, stumps — gone. Then comes the fill. But not just any dirt will do. We import the right material, and we don’t just dump and hope. Every inch gets compacted to the proper density. And we don’t guess — we test. Compaction testing ensures the ground will hold up for years to come.
Site prep is part art, part science. It’s dirty, sweaty work, but it’s where the job either starts right or starts wrong. BANR doesn’t cut corners. You might not see the work when the building’s done, but believe us — your structure will feel it if it wasn’t done right.
Even on the simplest job, site prep matters. Skip it, and suddenly a “simple” project turns into a nightmare. Take one job we had in Bend. The site sat near a cliff, and the prep dictated everything: wall height, footing depth, drainage patterns — you name it. Site prep didn’t just prepare the land, it wrote the rulebook for the build.
Most contractors don’t put in this kind of planning. They clear a path, eyeball some levels, and move on. We’re different. We think it through. Because the job doesn’t start when the concrete shows up. It starts when the first shovel hits the ground.
And here’s a tip from the field: never say the word “rain.” Not on the job site. Not even in a weather report. Say it, and it’ll come pouring down just in time to ruin your grade.
Bottom line? Proper site preparation saves money, time, and stress. Do it right, and the rest of your project gets a whole lot easier.
