Understanding the Process of Road Building

Road building isn’t just about getting from point A to point B. It’s about drainage, slope, compaction, and long-term survival.

First, you need the right route. Cut into the wrong slope and you’ll be fighting erosion for life. Place it too low, and rainwater has nowhere to go but through your road.

BANR’s method? Elevate smart. Build in positive drainage. We make sure roads shed water — not soak it. Our compaction techniques are tested, and we reduce rock excavation where possible. Speed isn’t our goal — longevity is.

The road base is key. We test, regrade, and compact to engineering spec — not just until it “looks good.” Asphalt and concrete are only as good as the base underneath.

We also account for snowmelt, frost heave, and local subgrade conditions. Central Oregon has unique soil challenges. That’s why we build roads tailored to the land, not just the blueprint.

Most outfits want to move fast. We’d rather move right. You get a road that lasts, not one that looks good for a season then cracks up like a stale cookie.
